課程概述 |
一、內容:
A general survey of major English writers and works from the Romantic period to the twentieth century. Together with English Literature I, this course is intended to provide the student an essential grasp of the greatness, variety, and continuity/discontinuity of the English literary tradition. Yet, rather than attempting comprehensive coverage, the class will concentrate on careful, and hopefully, in-depth reading of selected literary texts, viewed int he context of cultural and literary history, and whatever date that can be considered necessary for an understanding and appreciation of them.
二、教科書:
M. H. Abrams et al eds., The Norton Anthology of English Literature, sixth ed. (New York: W. W. Norton, 1993), vol. II.
三、課程要求:
In each semester, there will be some short reports on assigned topics, a mid-term examination or a short paper of five pages, and a take-home final examination in the form of essay questions. The take-home final will be designed to cover all of the assigned reading materials for the whole semester. All students are expected to finish reading the scheduled materials before they attend each class session so that they may actively respond to questions and discussions.
